It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

12/27/2010

It's Monday What Are You Reading is weekly meme which is started by Sheila from One Persons Journey Through a World of Books.

This week I choose two books to read,

Vampyre Kisses is an enthralling story about a young woman named Faith, who seems content with her life, but deep down craves more excitement. Then a mysterious man named Trent enters her world and everything changes. Surprising to Faith, Trent is a green-eyed vampire from Ireland. She is even more amazed to find out that she is a witch, and the last of her kind.
Faith learns that she is destined to restore her witch line and becomes more powerful as she gains confidence and knowledge, but danger lurks everywhere -- especially when unknown assailants steal the most important gems from the vampire master and werewolf royalty.
Now surrounded by a world filled with mystifying vampires and werewolves, can Faith gain enough power to help her friends and rescue the stolen gems? (Goodreads)

The year is 1806, England is beleaguered by the long war with Napoleon, and centuries have passed since practical magicians faded into the nation's past. But scholars of this glorious history discover that one remains, the reclusive Mr Norrell, whose displays of magic send a thrill through the country. Proceeding to London, he raises a beautiful woman from the dead and summons an army of ghostly ships to terrify the French. Yet the cautious, fussy Norrell is challenged by the emergence of another magician: the brilliant novice Jonathan Strange. Young, handsome and daring, Strange is the very antithesis of Norrel. So begins a dangerous battle between these two great men which overwhelms that between England and France. And their own obsessions and secret dabblings with the dark arts are going to cause more trouble than they can imagine. (Goodreads)

I plan to find any copy of   2010 Debut Author Challenge books. At least one to read next weekend.

So What are you reading?

12/20/2010

This is my first "It's Monday, What Are you Reading". It is a weekly meme which is started by Sheila from One Persons Journey Through a World of Books.

I have read The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. The translated one. It's not easy to finish this book. Because the translator chose many confusing words. I spent more than a week to reach the last page. I plan to write the review soon. I hope I can get the copy of the English version.

Magna (it's on ebook format, I got it from netGalley) by Nicole O'Dell .

The Synopsis from her website:
Molly Jacobs isn’t sure what she should do: Should she follow through with stealing some clothes for her friends from Magna, the trendy girls clothing store where she works? Or should she do what she knows is right, even if it means disappointing her best friends and possibly losing them forever? Girls ages 10 to 15 make the choice in this interactive story and see how the consequences of the alternate endings change Molly’s life. Includes a contract and prayer to remind the reader of the importance of making godly decisions.

After that I plan to read Emmy and The Incredible Shrinking Rat

This book has been translated into Indonesian by Atria. I love the color of the cover.

So what are you reading ?

I can see that it would be hard to understand Terry Pratchett in translation since word play and language is a large part of his books. He's one of my favorites.
