Review: Incredible Dreams by Sandra Edwards

Incredible Dreams is the story of a modern-day ghost whisperer who travels through time to save the life of a WWII fighter pilot and ends up jeopardizing her own existence. Izzy Miller prefers to call herself a spiritual therapist because she thinks it makes her sound more professional than plain old ghost-whisperer. She expects her latest project to be quick and easy because exorcising military personnel is pretty routine. But there's nothing easy or routine about Captain Jack Baker-he's a rather forgetful spirit and somewhat mischievous. And even though he's intrigued by the US Government's latest attempt to remove him from the only place he can ever remember being...he has no intentions of going anywhere. My Thought
Izzy Miller had unsual ability. She could sense and see ghost, apparition, or spirit. She had helped many lost souls and convinced them to cross over to the next life. She did not have spells like Wicca or used high tech equipments. Spiritual therapist, that’s what she called herself. She was very capable in this field. So no need to wonder why, the United States Military used her service. A big fat bonus was offered for her but it was the challenges which became the main reason why she used her talent and answered all her clients’ demands.

One day, she was asked to “cleaned” one hangar. She could sense many creatures inside. In few minutes, all sprited and fairies moved away. But there was one soul left, a spirit of Air Force flyer with his unfinished stuff. Jack Baker never knew the way he died.What written in his files about the accident around the world war did not make him satisfied. It looked like there was a mist that block his memory. That made Izzy had to think harder to find a way out. Because she never met a forgotful spirit. Besides none of them were as old as Jack. Another problem appeared when she realized there was a passion toward him.

Incredible dreams was not the first book that told me about a character with a talent for ghost whispering. I have read some. So I was not that impressed much when her ability revealed. But I did wonder how she would solve the case. The more I read, the more I got surprised. I never thought that Sandra, the authors would bring Izzy and me to such adventure. The plot ran smoothly. The ending was also nice. Nothing that made me confused.

The bond between Izzy and Jack was written very well. I liked all chapters about them. Compared to Izzy, I prefered Jack. Not only because he was so charming but also smarter . Yeah, Izzy’s ignorance became something that bugging me. I thought she had lost her mind when she let Jennie, another character that you’ll find in this book, controled the way she moved.She should have done some checking in the first place. I wish I could shout at her. I know I might too emotional. Just cant help it. The appearance of her family was also awkward for me.

Although I found some holes inside, over all I enjoyed this light paranormal book.

My Thought
The only reason why I joined the eBook tour for Wayward was its cover. I did not read its synopsis. This time there were no speculations that I could create like I used to do. It’s all because the cover did not tell me much. But for sure, the girl eyes attracted me in the first place.

Although in the beginning Helena “Hex” Wayward was drawn like another ordinary girl, she already grabbed my attention. And I was totally falling for her when she told me who she really was. All story about her past and her family were strung me out.

As written in synopsis, Hex was a witch without magic. It was easy to get the picture how miserable it was. The pressure that she got from her family became the reason why she avoided all family gathering or reunion. She did not need pity, but I just could not help myself. Especially when I found out the way they treated her. I felt so fired up when one night, an incident changed her life. For the first time, she was counted. I liked this movement.

What happened next was written very well. Another character such Sam, Cynthie, Zach even her cynical father made this story better. However the climax did not happened as I expected, the whole chapters were enjoyable. I am glad that Wayward is the first book of The Wayward Trilogy / The Witch Wars Saga as what written in Goodreads. I want to read the next book.

Review: Stolen Dreams by Stacey Kennedy

Tess Jennings has the ability to see and talk to spirits. On a daily basis, they harass and annoy her to save their souls. My Thought
Before writing this review, I did not read its synopsis. So I have no idea what Stolen Dreams told about. I just wanted to discover the story myself. I did not wish for something good since the cover has made me disappointed in the first place. Then what I got? This is one book that reminded me not to judge the book by its cover. I did not have to read many pages to jump to the story. Tess, Kipp and their story grabbed my attention only in a short time.

It was so easy to like Tess.Not only her unusual ability, even all those silly things she did pleased me. Kipp himself also become my favorite character. It was not because of the description of his physical appearance that Tess kept saying in some chapters. It is more about the way he treated Tess. From the first time they met, the way she attract Tess, teased her and when he confessed everything. No need to be genius with all Tess reactions. I did enjoy all the conversations between them. Especially in few last chapters. some of them almost made me cry.

The relationship between Tess and Kipp is not the only one thing that made me reading this book till the last pages, the murder case also become interesting part in this book. When the investigation was started again, I kept wondering how Tess would help this Police Department find the murderer. The plot was great. It brought me something really good from the beginning till end.

I think I have to put Stacey Kennedy into the list of my favorite authors. Out of the adult scene that she mixed with the story inside, she written everything very well. I do want to read another books of hers especially with Tess and Kipp inside.

I think it is not fair for Tess, Kipp and all the characters inside for this kind of cover. They deserved a better picture. I have noticed that Stacey has written many book and printed it in good cover but this one. All I can say ,forget about the cover, the story inside was too good to left behind.

It had happened many times but I felt like she did not get connected to it. Her past even her memories never revealed about it. Once I was desperately looking forward to it. Not only about that stuff, one thing that make me wondered and knitted many questions such where this book would take me. Because I almost read more than 100 pages but found no great intrigue . Thanks to my big curiosity.

I was not that into Lily. But I enjoyed all chapter which told me about her relationship with her sibling, Taynia. I almost cried a tear when something changed between them. In the end of the book, Jason was another character that make me curios.

The Blood Moon of Winter is a quick and light reading. None of the words or phrases inside that made me confused. Although it's new for me and felt a little bit weird about the whole ideas in this book, I found it interesting. Before reading this book, what I kept in my mind about the goddess was only linked to the Greek myth. The process of becoming the goddess in this book also absorbed my attention. I liked the way Courtney created and determined her own way about it.

I was little bit sad when I was in the last page. I thought I would find the ending. I just knew that there will be the second book. I hope I can get the chance to read the next series of this book. I want to know what will happen to Lily, to her family and absolutely her favorite author.

Review: "Honeytrapped" by Justine Elyot

Tilly finds herself tangled up in the tango, hot on the tail of a mystery. She even manages to fit in a car chase, though the brilliant deductive reasoning doesn't work out so well. But where her brain might miss out, her body certainly doesn't. They don't call sex the horizontal tango for nothing, it seems.

I never thought this book would only gave me 38 pages. When I found it out, I wondered what story it brought. It was just too short, my mind said. I was afraid that I was not into the characters well which I considered as important stuff from a book. Yeah, I always made too many prejudices for this kind of story. And again, I was wrong. It need only first few pages to know what kind of woman Tilly was. She is just too innocent. She entertained me with all her words and thoughts. It was a quick reading.


I wish I know the movement of tango. Because every step in this dance have a role. It was not easy for me to figure it out when she was in her dance class

Author Guest Post: What A Process! by Kiki Howell

In this Author guest post, I have Kiki Howell. She is the author Torn Asunder.

Most stories for me, no matter what the length, come at me fast. The spark of inspiration could come from anything: wanting to create a particular type of character to wanting to give fictional hope to a real life situation weighing on me and everything in between. But, once inspiration strikes, whatever it is, the whole idea is then outlined, characters fleshed out, chapters plotted, until I finally sit at the computer and the story practically writes itself. My poor typing skills are usually the only hold up I have. This, however, was not true of my latest release, Torn Asunder. This novel evolved over time.

I love to read Regency set stories, but I was afraid to try to write one, afraid I didn’t know enough about the time to pull it off. So, I bought a few books on the time period and set out to write just a short story. I was going to give it a try. Thinking it a magical time, of course I wanted my heroine to be a witch. This was all I knew. So, I brainstormed and came up with a scenario of a witch in that time, after the witch hunts had passed through England. I knew I wanted her to be forced to use her magic, to have to be a little reckless given the situation at hand. And, for some reason, I wanted that spell to be elemental in nature. This is where the creature in my story came about, a beast of my heroine Aubrey’s own creation made from a combination of each elemental being. What I ended up with was very dragon-like.

Of course, at that time, the story was one conflict, one spell, between Aubrey, a poor relation, and a man who was titled in England’s upper classes. This short went by another name then, An Elemental Shift, and I submitted it to a publisher I was interested in. The response from the editor was she loved the story, but wanted more. She suggested I write it longer.

I set to work. I brainstormed more chapters. What was a girl-runs-and-guy-rescues type of plot got a few more conflicts/crises added to it. Both my heroine and hero gained more depth in the process. Aubrey got more to deal with, poor witch, and Edmund got more time with Aubrey learning of her magic. I rewrote the story to about fifty thousand words, more than doubling the initial story. The same editor said it still wasn’t there yet. There was more she wanted to know, and thus rejected the story.

Frustrated, I’d just heard about the Authonomy Website. So, I posted the story on there. I was shocked to see it quickly rise to the top of the ranks, and thrilled with the positive comments and suggestions I got. At this point, I cannot tell you how many times I went back through this story, thought about the characters: what more could befall them, how would they react, etc.

Yet, one of the best and the worst parts of being so engrossed in the novel you are writing are those 3AM wake-up calls from your brain, the ones when you wake to find it writing a chapter for you or changing a scene. You have no choice but to stumble out of bed, through the chilled house to your computer. The mishaps here would be tripping over the dog who now thinks she has to go outside and be fed breakfast as well!

At some point, a plot point caught my eye, and what was the ending became a new conflict for my couple to overcome, and thus another twenty thousand words were added as a new ending. Personally, I think the novel has three very distinct parts to it, each centered around a different location. My mind travels, the characters travel ;) Of course there were still a few more bumps in the road before it was published, but it is finally here.

So, I hope you will enjoy my newest novel as much as I did writing it. Fraught

The Writing Process

Since publishing Bronwyn’s Stand, many readers have asked me about my writing. How do I manage to find time? How often do I write? Do I have a plan when I start a book? Do I follow an outline? Well… if you’ve seen my blog, you know that the story of Bronwyn’s Stand lived in my head for roughly twenty years (yes, 20!) before I wrote it down. When I finally decided to see if I could capture the story in print, I didn’t make any notes or outlines. I simply replayed the story in my head and typed it. That’s not to say I didn’t edit, revise, and sweat over it. Even though I had almost the entire story planned, it still took me six months to write it. Since then, I’ve written two more books, each taking me approximately six months. I know some authors insist on working on their writing every day. Unless I’m on summer vacation (Elementary Reading Specialist), I usually average four to five days a week. Sometimes the writing process is smooth. Sometimes it’s a struggle. Either way, it’s challenging. And I never could resist a challenge.

Bronwyn’s Stand

Bronwyn Barrister is an intelligent, strong, fiercely independent woman. She loves and is loved. And while she can’t really be described as happy, she is at least content. Until her past begins to catch up with her.

Vincent Lane is the son of a family friend. He and his security team have been hired to protect Bronwyn, to keep her safe. The task quickly becomes more than a job when Vincent finds himself drawn to Bronwyn. And with the first kiss, he knows he won’t be able to settle for a casual affair.

But Bronwyn has a secret – one that she keeps buried deep. Afraid that with the telling, she will sever the fragile connection she and Vincent have forged. Bronwyn’s Stand is the story of one woman who, with the love of one man, finds the courage to let go of her past in order to seize her future.

Choosing Love

When I first wrote and released Bronwyn’s Stand, I thought of it as a standalone novel. I didn’t realize that readers would ask for more. I didn’t realize they would fall in love with Preacher, Poet, Caveman, and Hollywood. I saw them as secondary characters. Readers did not. So… for the readers – the Choosing Love series.

If you’re at all familiar with @RachelintheOC via my Twitter feed, my blog, or my new book A Walk In The Snark, you probably know me as that redheaded Queen of Snark in a sea of blondes (OC does stand for Orange County, CA, home of the Tragic – I mean Magic – Kingdom), after all. Essays like Stupid Pants Syndrome, Men are from Seinfeld, Women are From Friends (Mancode), and I’m Fine. Deconstructed. (Chickspeak) certainly cement that fact.

But how did I get here? For millions of bloggers, those were the keys questions I was asking myself: how can I take my stories and put them into a book? Should I even bother? Will it translate?

Will anyone buy it?

I could have crawled up into a ball of indecision in my dirty martini (extra olives, of course) right then and there, but I knew a thing or two about social media and marketing (as well as writing, of course) so I pushed forward with my vision for my book. I knew I had written something people could relate to. How?

To keep my sanity as a SAHM, I wrote my first Mancode essay on my RachelintheOC.com blog about one year ago (April, 2010), titled it “Men are from Seinfeld, Women are from Friends,” and the response was overwhelming, immediate. Clearly, it wasn’t just my guy who went to the grocery store flummoxed by my note: BUY BREAD and would return instead with soup made in China I then had to check for lead content. Honestly.

Twenty-ish Mancode posts later, I had hit my brand, my goldmine. I expanded into Chickspeak, rounded it out with parenting, some real-life poignant stories of lost love, and felt I had enough to give readers a glimpse of me. Off it went to a professional editor and graphic artist and I had my book!

Why do men want to change the world but can’t change the toilet paper?

Clearly, I’m not talking rocket science here. I’m a humorist. My goal is to make you laugh, think, and give you a respite from your daily life of having to do laundry or yes, change the toilet paper roll!

I’m hard at work on my next book, The Mancode: A Survivor’s Tale. My husband is a good sport and to be honest, this Mancode stuff has been great shorthand for our going-on-nineteen-years marriage. Read the essay about Refrigeratoritis—you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Two-Fisted Tweets is a collection of thirty short stories. Each is less than 140 characters (the length of a Twitter tweet).

I've always been more interested in short stories than in novels, both writing and reading. However, if I hadn't discovered the Nanoism and PicFic websites, who publish tweet-length writing, I don't think I ever would've written anything that short.

I've been surprised how much you can get into a tiny number of words. This is especially true in science fiction, fantasy, and horror, where there are common plots that you can suggest by mentioning one or two elements.

I think I'm partly reacting against the tendency towards huge 'doorstop' novels, where every story has to be 1000 pages long and part of a series. It seems to be especially severe in fantasy, I guess because of the long shadow of Lord of the Rings

Review: Kissed From Beyond by Keta Diablo, Amber Scott, Elise Hepner, Stacey Kennedy

One antique shop, four women experienced different exceptional and not to be forgotten moment.

I am not a big fan of novella. I have read many of them and end up with disappointment. Not only because they left me with unfinished things but also because some of them just did not let me get a bond with its characters. I felt they were in such a hurry. So when I received and started read this ebook, I did not put many expectation.

One remarkable thing from this anthology was each story connected with one red line, an antique shop. Each character met Mrs. Higgins and from one thing in her shop, they were brought to something peculiar. I found this unique.

I could not found appropriate words to revealed how the stories surprised me. My ignorance held the responsibility for this. Because the authors have warned me in advance about the genre. Still, It left me open-mouthed. I never expect for those kind of scenes. It is just too hot for me. But at least after reading this ebook, I finally understand what they called as paranormal-erotica.

From all of the stories, CRADLE OF DREAMS is my favorite. The ending was better.

For anyone of you who love romance, erotica, paranormal stories, you should read this book.
